White Rose; 4/11/12, 8:19:38 AM; Downtown St. George Utah; f/8; 1/125; NIKON D5100
During my photo shoot with my sisters we found this rose, one of the first out in St. George. I really liked it, and decided to use it for the full cut out. I started with the quick select tool, trying to getting everything basically selected, then I refined my selection with the lasso tool. I tried cutting out some of the middle that wasn’t leaves, but it didn’t look right, so i just left them in. Then I used the “refine edge” tool to complete my selection. Then because the rose is white, I used a black background to add contrast.
Brinley in the Tree; 4/11/12, 7:54:32 AM; Downtown St. George Utah; f/5.6; 1/60; NIKON D5100
This is my sister Brinley, hanging in a tree downtown. I really liked it, but I didn’t like the background. I tried, because it is a partial cutout, to leave as much background as I could, and make it still look good, but and more background, and it cuts off her hand. So I left the with big, but added some of the background back into the tree. I again I used a mixture of the Quick selection tool, lasso tool, and refine edge. Then I copied the selection to another layer, and added a white rectangle behind that layer.
